How do you know that the crystal you are buying is what the label says? With this rapidly expanding market, it can be difficult to know what you are buying is what the seller says it is, especially when shopping online. We are developing a blog series to help you with exactly this, starting with heat-treated crystals. Misleading Minerals The crystal market is rapidly growing with a drastic increase on demand, some crystals have surfaced and are misleading the market. Sometimes crystals are incorrectly named at the source, causing it to get mislabeled down the entire supply chain until we buy it and find out at a later date that it's not what we wanted at all! This is a very broad topic and there are so many scenarios surrounding crystals. Whether we have bought something to later find out that name isn't a real crystal name and we need to find its real name, or we have purchased a crystal to discover it is in fact a very similar looking but different mineral. Maybe we believe we are buying a genuine crystal, only to find out it is a man-made version, or we buy a crystal to find out later that it has been heat-treated. All of these scenarios can be frustrating. Some of these crystals are incredibly beautiful and there is nothing wrong with buying them, but if it's not what we wanted, it is easy to feel duped. Believe me when I say this has happened to me on more than one occasion! It is far better to know for yourself what you are buying so you can make empowered choices. In this blog, we are going to look at heat treated crystals, the effect this has and the subsequent change in colour. But keep your eyes peeled for more blog posts covering the other topics. Citrine First up let's take a look at Citrine, a fairly rare crystal found naturally which is why it has been artificially created to satisfy public demand and budgets. Natural Citrine Natural Citrine is a member of the Quartz family. It is Clear Quartz with iron inclusions and is a beautiful warm honey yellow colour and can range from very pale to almost brown in colour. Due to its rarity, this is a pricey crystal. Heat Treated Amethyst Citrine The most common type of crystal available as Citrine currently on the market is actually heat-treated Amethyst. By heat-treating Amethyst (a purple variety of Quartz) the colour of the crystal changes and a yellow one can be created. Typically a bright orange/yellow to deep burnt orange, with opaque white at the base of the crystals. This type of 'Citrine' tends to be found in individual crystals or clusters, just like you would find Amethyst. Heat Treated Quartz Citrine A yellow crystal can also be artificially created by heat-treating Clear Quartz. This creates a very different coloured 'Citrine' that is very yellow and often quite bright. This is a more recent development and might be due to supplies of Amethyst running low as so much of it is made into 'Citrine'!! Natural Heat Treating Now, what we need to bear in mind here before we get all hot under the collar about this happening to our beloved crystals is that Mother Earth naturally heat treats (irradiates) her own crystals with remarkable effect. An example of this would be Clear Quartz being irradiated to create Smoky Quartz, one fabulous and incredibly powerful crystal! Now natural Smoky Quartz is again quite a rare beast. It is a stunning crystal that varies in colour from a very pale tan to deep chocolate brown. So to create more Smoky Quartz and at a cheaper price, Clear Quartz has been heat-treated in a laboratory to satisfy demand. The end result isn't the same in terms of colour though, which is a good thing as it means we can easily determine the difference between the real thing created by Mother Earth and one that has been adapted by man. The man-made version has a much harsher and darker colour and can actually be quite black in colour as opposed to smoky brown. Natural VS Treated Crystals Is It Fair? So if humans are just replicating a natural process to create cheaper and more accessible crystals, is this a problem? Well, that's for each of us to decide, but I do think it's important that they are labelled correctly so we know what we are buying. Are natural crystals superior to ones altered by man? More powerful? More anything? Well, I think that the best way we can each decide for ourselves is to work with these crystals and compare their energies, feeling the energy rather than thinking about the process and whether we approve of it or not. What we feel in this now moment might well change anyway, so I always use the phrase 'never say never' because you can guarantee if you don't, you might just have to eat your words! It's nice to know what you are buying. When you know you know. It's when you don't know and then find out that it can be upsetting and frustrating. So are these types of manipulated crystals fake or fraudulent? Maybe not if you have the right information, it is still a crystal with a particular colour, but maybe just not as Mother Nature designed. Sometimes, this allows us to add a crystal to our collection which we might not otherwise be able to afford. Use Your Guidance Personal preference is one thing, but if you are drawn to a crystal it doesn't matter what it is or how it was made, the chances are that you need it in your life at this point in time. All yellow crystals have an effect on the Solar Plexus chakra and share a core set of influences, but they each have something unique that they bring to the table due to the different minerals included within them. We only have to think about Clear Quartz being mined in different parts of the world and having very recognisable energies to understand that any differences, however subtle can alter the energy. So, if you are drawn to a crystal it will be because it is exactly what you need, no matter the journey it has travelled to reach you. We can fill the gaps created by forgiveness with gratitude as it has such a high vibration. Gratitude is a magical attitude we can choose to have, it helps us to raise our frequency which makes us lighter and brighter and manifests more things for us to be grateful for. Gratitude affirmation: I know that I am truly blessed and all is well in my world Step 3: Guidance I invite you to ask yourself some big questions under the Cancer Full Moon and then just feel the answers rise up from your heart. Hello January and the start of an exciting and brand new year. What a year 2022 will be, and we are starting it in the most fabulous way, celebrating the 1:1 Portal, followed by the New Moon in Capricorn on the 2nd. Each month in the wheel of the year brings us something totally unique. To support us during the coming month, our Crystal of the Month is Garnet! Read on to find out why. Time for new beginnings: January is traditionally associated with a fresh start and new beginnings. The Sun starts in Capricorn and then moves into Aquarius....... practical, systematic and goal-orientated Earth energy followed by innovative, radical and visionary Air energy. On December 21st 2021 we celebrate the rebirth of the Sun at the Winter Solstice and we experience the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Directly opposite the Summer Solstice, it is the lowest point of the Sun's descent into minimum light. What is the Winter Solstice? The Winter Solstice day is 9 hours and 30 minutes shorter and darker than at the Summer Solstice in June. That's a massive difference and a whole lot of darkness! As the Sun is reborn, so are we! Bringing the wisdom of our inner journey out into the world with the increasing daylight. For now, the darker days allow us the opportunity to experience our inner world and integrate the experiences we have had this year. It provides the perfect conditions to incubate our personal plans and ideas that will start to manifest as the outward active energy returns. Why is the Winter Solstice important? The Solstice is a time to stop, look back and reflect as all of nature has slowed down and so have we, then look forward to a new and exciting active season as the Sun's returning power will bring increased daylight, growth and activity. The days will lengthen and the warmth will return once more. The Sun also moves into Capricorn, the sign of the achiever, on this day at 15.59 GMT. This brings a huge change in the type of energy influencing us, moving from the wild and bouncy Fire element (Sagittarius) to the practical and structured Earth element (Capricorn). We look to the cycles and rhythms of nature to find healing and wholeness within ourselves. As within, so without. As above, so below. We need to be preparing for new beginnings by creating a place of sanctuary within us by being still and meditating. The energy is light and airy! It is a powerful and positive Full Moon for all Air and Fire signs, but more challenging for Earth and Water signs. With so much to talk about with this Full Moon, here is a quick overview. How to embrace the Full Moon Why is a Full Moon important? The night of the Full Moon represents possibility, unfolding potential and abundance as one of our New Moon intentions could be about to manifest or be on its way. From this point on we are aware of the consequences of the cycle and can make conscious choices about any further development. Each month the Full Moon takes place in a different sign, bringing a new and different energy and theme to work with. The Full Moon always occupies the polar opposite sign to that of the Sun. We need to spend time outside and look up at the Moon (if it is visible), connect to our basic instincts and feel wild and free. Our ancestors have danced and celebrated under the light of the Full Moon throughout time and in surrendering to the present moment we are then open to receiving what is available to us right now. Affirmation: I surrender to spirit and open my heart to infinite possibilities We can go within to release the past, shift blocks and heal ourselves. This is easiest when we remember that forgiveness and gratitude are the major players at any Full Moon. The Full Moon is shining so brightly at this time that it is illuminating the darkness to help us see exactly what inner work needs to be done. How will this Full Moon in Gemini affect us? At the Full Moon, the Moon and Sun are sat directly opposite each other with the Sun illuminating the Moon. They are both in signs that are totally opposite sides of the zodiac but need to find balance and common ground. They represent opposite ends of the spectrum, neither good nor bad, just what is. This month the Sun is in Sagittarius and the Moon is in Gemini. We are looking to find the balance between what is near (Gemini) and what is far (Sagittarius), wanting to know everything and taking the time to really learn. This helps us find our flow through the process of transformation. The energy is changeable! How to embrace the Full Moon We live in a world of energy, or better yet, a web of energy where all things are connected. There are no gaps in this energy, so when we shift and release lower frequencies from our energy field it creates a void that we can then consciously choose to fill with something of a higher nature, with a super-high frequency. Basically, it's out with the old and in with the new. Creating a ritual is the perfect way to work through this process. Here is our suggestion for a Full Moon Ritual: Step 1: Forgiveness holds the releasing power and creates a void. Forgiveness is the first step in the healing process as we have to release the past so we can live the life of our dreams. Forgiveness sets us free as when we forgive, we release the karma which binds us to a person, situation or experience and allows us to be free of it. It does not mean that we condone the actions of someone else, it just allows us to let go and move on. This is such a gift as we can release the burdens we carry and choose to do something far healthier with our energy instead. Forgiveness affirmation: I release the past with love in my heart Step 2: Gratitude holds the power to fill the void. We can fill the gaps created by forgiveness with gratitude as it has such a high vibration. Gratitude is a magical attitude we can choose to have, it helps us to raise our frequency which makes us lighter and brighter and manifests more things for us to be grateful for. Gratitude affirmation: I know that I am truly blessed and all is well in my world Step 3: Guidance I invite you to ask yourself some big questions under the Gemini Full Moon and then just feel the answers rise up from your heart. Use these five questions to help guide you: Could I slow down and be more grounded and real with people? Have I been mindful of other people's feelings? Do I keep changing my mind? This is known as the 12:12 portal and presents us with a fabulous opportunity to work with the supersonic incoming energies and downloads for our highest good. Mega upgrade and up-levelling right here! What is a portal? A portal is an energetic doorway or gateway to an expanded state of consciousness. It creates a powerful opportunity to connect with higher energies so we can make huge shifts in our life. We can make the most of each portal if we work with the incoming energies by channelling, anchoring and integrating them. We are physical beings and we are also energy beings. We are a magical combination of the two and when we acknowledge, accept and work with both realities we really can live our best and highest possible life! How do I know this? I have experienced it for myself during my journey in this lifetime and found that the combination of the two radically different systems can work together to create miracles. The physical part of us and our world we can touch and see and we were taught (in Western culture) is our only reality. The energy part of us is connected to a network of energy that extends throughout the entire Universe. We cannot touch it or see it with our physical eyes, we have to feel it with our hearts and connect with it using our inner vision. The majority of people, like me, grew up knowing nothing of this energetic aspect of our lives and the significance of it. Our life becomes a wonderful adventure as our faith and trust grow in the unseen aspects of our lives. Our personal energy system is in constant interaction with the larger system of energy around us. We are part of an interconnected, dynamic, subtle energy system that makes up reality and chakras are the main energy structures we have that deal with this interaction. They are crucial to the flow of life force energy throughout our being. The Chakras There are 7 major chakras on the body which correspond to the 7 main areas of human experience and these are as follows: The Crown Chakra - Consciousness The Third Eye Chakra - Insight The Throat Chakra - Communication The Heart Chakra - Love The Solar Plexus Chakra - Power The Sacral Chakra - Pleasure The Base Chakra - Grounding Chakras are formed by subtle energy flowing in a circular pattern, spinning like a wheel. In spiritual development, the 7 chakras are states of awareness along the continuum between matter and spirit, from the Base chakra to the Crown chakra. When the chakras are working as a healthy functioning system and the flow of energy through them is balanced, we feel healthy and happy. The balance and health of our chakras determine the balance and health of our physical, spiritual, mental and emotional levels of existence. A healthy chakra is open, circular, defined and filled with clear, flowing, colourful and vibrant energy. There are 3 main energy flows through the chakras: A constant exchange of energy flows between us and our immediate environment in both directions. A flow of energy that starts at the Base chakra and is able to move up through the entire chakra column to the Crown chakra. A flow of energy from the Crown chakra all the way back down the chakra column to the Base chakra. A deeper understanding of Chakras: There are 3 physical level chakras (Base, Sacral and Solar Plexus), 3 spirit level chakras (Throat, Third Eye and Crown) and one transitional chakra (Heart) which acts as a bridge between the body and spirit. Each chakra has a related colour ray and it is necessary to embody the energies of all 7 rays by opening, clearing and energising the 7 chakras, starting with the Base and working up to the next one as each one is healed and balanced. There are many different crystals that resonate with each chakra and we can start by simply choosing a crystal to work with taking into account its specific colour. As we work more with energy, we find we are able to use our guidance to select the optimum crystal/s at the perfect time. This can include a colour match that you were not expecting! When working with crystals to heal chakras, there are many different ways we can do this. We can carry or wear crystals, place them on a chakra when we are lying down, or connect with them during meditation. The most effective way is to be guided and feel what is right for you. It might well be something that I haven't already mentioned, but please don't let that deter you. Mine are just suggestions to try when you first start and as you gain confidence, you will know exactly what you need to do. Factors That Affect the Chakras Emotions have the greatest impact on the flow of energy through our chakras. As a result, the chakras are very important indicators of energy patterns and of the locations where issues and emotions are stored in the body. The chakra system is intimately connected with the endocrine system and imbalances in one system will affect the other. Other things that affect the flow of energy are: our thoughts, the energy in our environment, the food we eat, the words we speak the actions we take. As a result, our chakras are ever-changing to reflect our current circumstances. Our chakras today represent our life as it is right now, but we can choose to engage and work with them at any time to create healing and balance.
