Blazing June, what excitements do you have in store for us? Activity and outdoor time aplenty as we approach the peak of the Solar cycle, in addition to the beautiful sight and wondrous smell of Roses and Honeysuckle adorning gardens and hedgerows. Each month in the wheel of the year brings us something unique and very special. To support us during the coming month, our Crystal of the Month is Moonstone! Read on to find out why.
June and Moonstone:
June is considered the month of maximum daylight in the Northern Hemisphere and the midpoint of the growing season between planting and harvesting. During June, the sixth month of the year, we experience the Summer Solstice, the powerful 6:6 portal and the Sun moving from the Mutable Air sign of Gemini, into the Cardinal Water sign of Cancer.
That means we are looking for crystals that align with the energy of June, mainly to enhance the feminine power and intrigue, helping us to go with the flow and move easily and effortlessly through any experience, demonstrating ease and grace and showing others how to do the same!
So naturally, I have chosen shimmering Moonstone as my crystal of choice for June. You could also use Pearl, Alexandrite or any other magical crystal that you are drawn to.
What is Moonstone?
Common Moonstone comes from the mineral Adularia which was named after a mining site near Mount Adular in Switzerland. It also gives its name to Moonstone's shimmery glow, termed adularescence.
So Moonstone is made of microscopic layers of Feldspar that scatter light, causing this adularescence effect. Thinner layers create a blue sheen and thicker layers appear white. Moonstone can be found in a variety of colours including grey, black, yellow, green, blue, peach and pink. However, the finest Moonstones are considered to be transparent with a blue shimmer.
The Power of Moonstone
Moonstone is the crystal of the High Priestess and keeper of the divine feminine mysteries. If we are looking to reveal our feminine power and connect to the goddess, it is a necessity! As a talisman for the inward journey, it takes us deep into ourselves to observe the hidden truths we find in the depths of darkness and brought to plain sight by the shimmering and reflective light of Moonstone.
How Moonstone was used throughout History
Going way back to ancient civilisations, Moonstone has always been considered a powerful talisman. Highly valued for centuries it is a popular and accessible stone.
In India, Moonstone has always been regarded as a sacred stone with special significance for lovers.
The Roman natural historian, Pliny, named this gemstone when he wrote that its shimmering appearance shifted with the phases of the Moon. This belief was held until after the 16th century.
The Romans believed it was created from Moonbeams and both the Greeks and Romans connected it with their Lunar deities.
Moonstone has been popular in jewellery since 1890, spanning the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts eras and continuing into the New Age movement of the 1990s.
The magic of rebirth is available to us during June with the help and support of Moonstone. Carry it with you, wear it as jewellery, place it on your chakras, and have it in your environment, but make sure you connect with it as often as you can. It will help change our lives at this exciting time.
Sparkly Moonstone blessings,
Tiggy xx
